Salary Grade 117- Placement range: $24.50 to $28.01, depending on experience.
General Maintenance/Lead Mechanic
JOB SUMMARY
At Phoenix Elementary School District #1, we are committed to inspiring every child to achieve, and supporting the adults who guide them. This includes ensuring students and staff are safely transported each day in school busses and other vehicles. The Lead Mechanic position plays a critical role in this work, managing, coordinating, and providing mechanical service and repair to the fleet of district vehicles, trucks, and buses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoots defective equipment and repair/replace as needed.
- Implements a complete preventative maintenance/obsolescence program with accurate record keeping for all units
- Maintains record or repairs, costs, and recommendations
- Troubleshoots conventional and electronically controlled engines, diesel powerplants and powertrains
- Generates and writes specifications for buses, trucks, and automobiles in accordance with district and state requirements
- Complies with EPA, OSHA, and ADOT inspections and requirements
- Coordinates with state official’s annual emission and licensing requirements
- Assists as a district liaison with insurance and local authorities when accidents occur
- Schedules parts, service, and purchases with outside vendors
- Operates and performs tasks using modern mechanical testing and maintenance equipment
- Attends workshops and seminars for self-improvement in the trade
- Coordinates work duties and assists in evaluations of Mechanics
- Maintains and organizes the district’s bus yard, shop equipment, tooling, and garage area.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· High School diploma or GED
· Minimum of five (5) years experience at journeyman level in the service and repair of automobiles, trucks, and buses

PREFFERED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· ASE certification in automobile and heavy duty truck categories and/or equivalent educational certificates

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
- Purchasing and Procurement procedures
- Best practices in managing and operating a mechanic shop
Skilled in:
- Microsoft Office and computer use
- Effectively coordinating and managing the work of others
Ability to:
- Effectively and efficiently ensure multiple work streams are completed on-time
- Effectively and accurately present information verbally and in writing
- Prioritize tasks from a varying list and working without interruptions
