Business Services is relied on by our schools and educators having access to the resources they need to facilitate learning. The Budget Manager serves a critical role in providing services essential for the preparation, supervision, compliance and management of budgets by completing budgetary requirements. This role maintains and provides all necessary information for auditors, generates budgetary tracking systems and monitors allocations of grant budgets. The Budget Manager has excellent analytical, computer, communication, and teamwork skills in order to ensure not only compliance, but effectiveness in using grants to increase our student learning and organizational effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direction of the Director of Budget & Finance, prepares, supervises and manages preliminary and final budget.
- Researches and analyzes historical accounting transactions to support budget decision making.
- Processes changes to the budget and budget transfers with appropriate authorizations.
- Monitors and controls the budgets and grants in the general ledger system.
- Prepares the monthly financial reports and budget analysis.
- Performs monthly detailed review of actual results compared to budget to identify significant variances from the budget.
- Prepares quarterly forecasts and analyzes actual versus budgeted activities.
- Assists in the preparation of multi-year enrolment projections.
- Performs monthly salary and benefit projections to year end and advises senior management of any variances from budget.
- Provides budget training to District staff as required.
- Serves as a backup to the Payroll Supervisor.
- Provides support to budget owners, monitors performance against budget and pro-actively advises senior management of spending and revenue trends that need to be addressed in order to maintain a balanced budget.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
· Coursework or extensive experience (3+ years) in budget preparation, accounting, federal grants

PREFFERED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· 2 to 5 years of budget preparation
· Advanced MS office with emphasis in utilizing Excel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
- Data collection, organization, and analysis systems that can be used for reporting key information
- Systems that effectively reach outcomes related to complains as well as efficacy
Skilled in:
- Effectively communicating information and responding to questions from administrators, staff and the general public.
- Working with mathematical formulas in Excel, including fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and other calculations for practical situations.
Ability to:
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule from.
